Steve Jacques. Ph.D.

The technology platform behind our initial product was developed by Dr. Steve Jacques, a recognized leader in bio-optics and professor, Biomedical Engineering, School of Science & Engineering and Research Assoc. Professor, Dermatology, School of Medicine, Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, Oregon. Mr. Samuels and Dr. Bambot have a long standing relationship with Dr. Jacques including the commercialization of a hand held non-invasive bilirubin detection device invented by Dr. Jacques (see http://bilichek.respironics.com/). At present he is conducting a large NIH funded study titled “Optical guidance of surgical excision of skin cancer” expected to conclude early 2010. The results of this study will help in the development of our initial and subsequent products. Dr. Jacques will continue his involvement in this project as a consultant.

Max Stachura, M.D.

Dr. Stachura is the Director of the Medical College of Georgia Telemedicine Center. He joined the Center in 1995 after 14 years at the MCG Hospital and Clinics and at the Augusta VA Medical Center as Chief of the Section of Metabolic and Endocrine Disease in the Department of Medicine. Dr. Stachura came to MCG in 1981 after eight years on the faculty of the University of Chicago. He obtained his MD in 1965 from Harvard Medical School.

His background includes 15 years of NIH and or VA Merit Review funded basic research, directorship of endocrine disease-related outreach programs for patient care and education as well as health professional development. His current academic focus is health services delivery and barriers to access.

Melissa Babcock, M.D.

Dr. Melissa Babcock is a board certified dermatologist on staff at Piedmont Hospital and a member of the Piedmont Clinic. She is a graduate of The University of Michigan medical school. She completed her dermatology training in Portland, Oregon at Oregon Heath and Sciences University. Subsequently she completed a fellowship in Mohs surgery and facial reconstruction at The University of California in San Francisco (UCSF).

She moved in the summer of 2007 to Atlanta after spending five years practicing with University Dermatologists in Cleveland Ohio. She is a member of The American Academy of Dermatology, The American College of Mohs Surgery and The American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons.

Vernon K. Sondak, MD

Dr. Sondak is Chair of the Department of Cutaneous Oncology and Director of Surgical Education at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, Florida. He is also a Professor in the Departments of Oncologic Sciences and Surgery at the University of South Florida, College of Medicine. His research interests include surgical treatment of malignant melanoma in adults and children; surgical treatment of Merkel cell carcinoma and soft-tissue sarcomas, including dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, angiosarcoma, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, and desmoid tumors; adjuvant therapy of melanoma; and evaluation of vaccine treatments for patients with localized or disseminated melanoma. Dr. Sondak has also been a leader in studies of surgical treatment of melanoma and other cutaneous malignancies, particularly in the application of sentinel lymph node biopsy to the staging of melanomas, sarcomas and non-melanoma skin cancers. He is actively involved in ongoing analyses to determine which patients with thin melanoma are most likely to benefit from sentinel node biopsy, as well as which patients with sentinel node metastases are most likely to have further metastases identified in other regional lymph nodes.

Dr Sondak is the author or coauthor of 230 articles in peer-reviewed publications, 124 abstracts, and 8 books and 64 book chapters.
